Review of My Virtual Boyfriend

This app is good for: Quenching your secret inner desires
My Virtual Boyfriend is a dating simulation game packing full 3D rendered graphics. Like it’s predecessor “My Virtual Girlfriend”, this dating sim boasts a huge array of sims to choose from, each with its own fully customizable personality. Admittedly, it was awkward playing this game as a guy myself and it didn’t help that my first sim that I was supposed to date was extremely flambuoyant. After a while I had to restart the game until I got a more ‘manly’ sim which made playing it more comfortable for me. (I am not homophobic and I am all for equal rights, but it just gets a bit uncomfortable when I get hit on)
You start off by choosing your own personality traits and then your perfect boyfriend’s one. A list of sims will be presented to you each with it’s own personality and you get to choose whoever you prefer the most. His looks are also fully customizable and you can change his hair style, skin color, clothes and even his name. There are 5 responses you can select from when he interacts with you: Agree, Disagree, Neutral, Sorry or Upset and he would react according to your response.
There are a huge variety of ways you can interact with your Virtual Boyfriend as you try to ‘level up’ in this relationship. You start off in a level 1 relationship and could do stuff such as telling jokes, holding hands and going bowling. As your relationship level increases, you are able to do more intimate actions such as massages, making out and of course, having sex. However, there is no certainty whether he will approve of your actions and might blow you off resulting in a negative score that would bring down your relationship level.
While I wasn’t expecting ground breaking 3D graphics, I was reasonably impressed with the expressions that each ‘sim’ made. And at one point in time I (almost) felt sorry for deliberately trying to make this hunky guy upset due to the look on his face.
In conclusion, if you like games like Petz, or you were one of those kids who carried those ‘Tamagotchi’ toys around school, and you are finding it hard to find your dream guy, this app might just be for you. You will probably get slightly less satisfaction than what you get our of a real date, but I feel that this game is pretty interesting overall and it’s worth the adventure for some of you girls. On the other hand, this might turn out to be a mega disaster where it can’t get any lamer. In other words.. it’s just like dating.
