This game is good for: Girls who likes Big Guns, Booty or Pirate Babes, and any Guy.

In Crimson: Steam Pirates, you take on the role of an escaped prisoner Captain Thomas Blood and battle it out in the carribean in this turn-based strategy game based in the 18th century. It is in essence, a very entertaining and visually impressive game that will entertain most.

Last week’s post on turn-based games made me crave some non-adrenalin pumping action, so it goes without saying that the refreshing gameplay of Crimson constantly kept me excited and I became a fan without much delay. As Captain Thomas Blood, you are in command of a naval fleet of unique ships and even zeppelins that roam the skies. Each of the vessels have different strength, range, speed and abilities, all serving different purposes, and you will find most important to various circumstances.

The game structure is chapter based, and purchasing the app will get you the first chapter of a series that will constantly be developed. The first chapter consists of 8 missions which have a variety of different objectives such as capturing forts, saving allies, plundering gold, etc, all of which blend in extremely well with the captivating storyline. New ships/vessels and new abilities are released with progressively with each mission, an age-old technique which almost always makes it impossible for any gamer to resist starting the next mission after completion. At the end of the mission, there is a scoring system which allows you to connect to an online global leader board. There are currently 2 chapters already released and a third chapter due for release soon.

Extremely well integrated into the gameplay are specific tutorials within the missions itself. Start learning the ropes of the different abilities of a ship such as boosting speed, faster firing rate, increase firing range, repairing hulls, healing crews and boarding enemy ships. Boarding enemy ships will thrust you into a small mini game where you can choose your crew members to battle against the opponent crew members. (You can’t help but notice the mini game being called ‘Boarding Action’ whilst some of your crew members are scantily clad pirate babes. This detail will be an instant hit with geeks.)

The only drawback I found was that I personally felt the missions were slightly too easy for my liking and not much strategy is involved, though it could be because of my *ahem* vast experience with turn-based strategy games. However, the experience of the adventures was just too entertaining and made me almost glad that I cruised through every mission easily. The easy missions give this game a low replay value unless you are competing for high scores. The first chapter is available for free and the second chapter can be purchased as an in-app purchase for $1.99.

Overall I would definitely encourage everyone to give it a shot.. If it floats your boat, go ahead and purchase the 2nd chapter.
